In particular we are committed to:

  • The minimisation of waste in all operations

  • The promotion of efficient utilisation of energy
  • The minimisation of any harm to the environment occurring because of any emissions to air, water and land arising from our production processes
  • The maintenance of good forest management practices and the long term sustainability of our business forest resource
  • The recognition of social values and community standards in applying environmental initiatives

We encourage all of our employees to take responsibility for the maintenance of this policy and the monitoring of environmental performance.

Energy and Environmental Conservation

As a participant in the Energy for Industry partnership, WPI Pulpmill saw the building of a cutting edge 12MW heat generation plant at Karioi for drying pulp. It is fuelled by wood waste and 20,000 tonnes of partially dried pulp sludge. It provides the majority of WPI Pulpmill heat requirements and supports energy efficiency and environmental management through the reduction in LPG consumption and CO2 emissions of some 25,000 tonnes annually.

NZ Wood

WPI is an active partner and member of the NZ Wood programme in New Zealand.

WPI fully supports and endorses this organisation's committment for the promotion and development of New Zealand's sustainable forestry, wood and wood based products.

Maintaining and enhancing the long term viability of the wood industry overall is vital to forest and wood processing industries.
